The soil has been formed by various major geological periods over time: The Palaezoic era (570 million – 250 years ago); the Triassic period (250-210 million years ago) and the Jurassic period (210-150 million years ago) provided the original intrusive rock material which was then covered with marine terrace deposits during the Miocene and Pliocene periods (25-2 million years ago). All this has been further influenced by the constant Tectonic activity creating deformations over time.
